About fifteen years ago, I was introduced to my first robot vacuum cleaner. Up to this point, being a cleaning specialist that’s obsessed with keeping a tidy home, I had been maniacally cleaning and vacuuming my floors by myself. Truthfully, I was blown away by how convenient this type of device can be. Since then, I have tried a large and wide variety of robotic vacuums. As a result, I have learned what works and what does not. With all that in mind, throughout this article, I will review one of my favorite classic robot vacuum out there: the iRobot Roomba 630. With any luck, you will be able to use this information to decide whether this product is right for you as well.

Things to Consider Before Buying a Robotic Vacuum Cleaner

Without a doubt, a robot vacuum is a valuable product that is capable of making your life a lot easier. Being capable of automatically finding and eliminating dirt off your home floors, this type of device can help you keep your home nice and clean. As a result, it is a great option for busy people who want to live in a clean environment without wasting too much time and energy every day. If this is you, consider buying one.

Before proceeding, it’s important that you learn certain facts about robotic vacuums in general. Take the following into account:

Type of Floor

Without a doubt, one of the most important things to consider before buying a robot vacuum is the type of floors it will be cleaning. In today’s world, most modern devices of this kind are capable of dealing with all types of floors. That doesn’t mean, however, that they can clean all types of floors with the same amount of efficiency. In fact, specific models are better at cleaning certain types of floors. For that reason, it’s important to take into account the types of floors in your home before making a purchase. In particular, it is important to differentiate devices meant for hardwood from devices meant for carpeting.

Home Size

Another hugely important aspect to take into account before buying a robot vacuum cleaner is the size of your house. Keep in mind that, the larger the floor surface area that is required to clean, the more time it will take the robot to completely perform its job. Consequently, the bigger your home is, the more battery life the device will require to clean all of it. For that reason, you should take special care of choosing one that has a large enough battery to clean your entire house with one charge.

Allergy Management

Another key aspect is allergy management. If you don’t have allergies, asthma or any similar health problems, a regular robot vacuum may do the job just right. However, if you do have these problems, you may want to look for a device that includes a high-efficiency HEPA filter. These filters are capable of capturing and quarantining allergens. If you have pets, it may also be a good idea to look for a cleaner that’s effective at picking up hair.

Features and Benefits of the iRobot Roomba 630

iRobot Roomba 630 Vacuum Cleaning Robot

Now that I’ve gotten the basic information out of the way, it is time to talk about the iRobot Roomba 630’s features and characteristics in-depth. Hopefully, this information will allow you to decide whether the product is right for you. Take the following into account:

Design

In terms of design, the Roomba 630 offers the classic iRobot round shape. Apart from being sleek-looking, this design helps the device rotate and move in all directions. Meanwhile, its low profile allows it to clean under furniture and other difficult places without getting stuck. Around it, the device’s light grey body has a protective black ring that prevents damage from impact. To be operated, the cleaner features three large buttons right in the center of its top section.

Performance

To thoroughly eliminate dirt, the iRobot Roomba 630 uses the manufacturer’s flagship three-step cleaning system. Without a doubt, this system is efficient and dependable. To loosen dirt and pick up debris, the unit uses two counter-rotating brushes that are capable of picking up pet hair from both hardwood and carpeting. Meanwhile, a side brush that doubles as a corner brush is used to clean wall edges thoroughly and completely.

One of the best things about the Roomba 630 is that it performs very well on all types of floors. Quite amazingly, this includes difficult surfaces such as carpeting. It should be noted, though, that the product will struggle when the time comes to clean high-pile carpets. Apart from that, though, the device does wonders on tile, vinyl, laminate, stone, and hardwood.

Maneuverability

Unfortunately, the Roomba 630 doesn’t have the smart navigation capabilities of newer models. As a result, it moves in a random pattern, waiting to find areas to clean using its dirt detector sensors. At any rate, though, using a camera and various sensors, the device is rather effective at navigating a room while avoiding obstacles. To maximize efficiency, however, it’s always a good idea to use the Roomba 630 in one room at a time. Additionally, you can use virtual wall barriers that limit the device’s moving area. The Roomba 630 includes one virtual wall barrier. If that is not enough, though, you can always buy more virtual wall barriers separately.

Usability

One thing you can’t say about the iRobot Roomba 630 is that it’s difficult to use. Setting the device up is remarkably easy: Basically, all you need to do is eliminate obstacles and, if you want, place virtual wall barriers wherever it’s required. After that, all you have to do is press the “Start” button and watch the robot go. Using iRobot’s proprietary iAdapt technology, the device can recognize its surroundings and make decisions regarding how to proceed. You also have a couple of extra buttons that provide some additional control. One enables spot cleaning, a feature that helps you clean specific spots with special thoroughness. Meanwhile, the other button tells the Roomba 630 to auto-dock and turn itself off for recharge.

Battery

The iRobot Roomba 630 uses a 2600mAh battery pack that gives it a run time of 60 minutes. When it comes to small and medium-sized rooms, that is often more than enough. However, 60 minutes may not be enough to thoroughly clean larger areas, particularly considering that the device moves in a randomized pattern. At any rate, if its battery gets dangerously low in the middle of cleaning a room, the 630 will go back to its charging station where it will recharge for 2 to 3 hours. After that, it will resume its cleaning.

Social Proof

At this point, I would be remiss not to say a few things about the reception this product has had on society at large. To do this successfully, I spent quite a bit of time scouring through the internet, looking for iRobot Roomba 630 reviews made by customers and professional reviewers alike. Happily, the great majority of these reviews echo and confirm my own thoughts: The iRobot Roomba 630 is an efficient, durable, reliable and dependable robot vacuum.

Being a bit more specific, I can say that many of the reviews talked about the device’s power and effectivity when it comes to cleaning difficult spots. Many of these reviews also talked about the unit’s capability to work efficiently on any type of surface, including the dreaded high-pile carpeting. Additionally, there were quite a few reviewers that praised the Roomba 630’s dependability, many of them mentioning that they’ve owned one for years without experiencing any sort of problems.
